The Importance Of Eating Your Greens Everyday

We all know that fruit and vegetables are a rich source of key micronutrients such as vitamins, minerals and various phytonutrients all of which play an important role across a wide range of health areas.

Fruit and vegetables are packed with essential vitamins and minerals, plus a variety of phytochemicals and fibre, all of which are vital for overall good health. As well as this, many of these nutrients also act as powerful antioxidants that protect the body from harmful free radicals, which are damaging to our cells and can lead to chronic illnesses and even disease later in life.

Studies have shown that people who eat plenty of fruit and veg have a lower risk of developing many chronic diseases, including high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and stroke, and even some cancers.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Department of Health continue to recommend that we should all be aiming to eat at least five portions of a wide variety of fruit and vegetables a day – representing about a third of the food we eat each day, as shown in the published ‘Eatwell Plate’ Guide.

Yet most adults are falling way short of this target. According to recent UK food intake and nutrition studies (NDNS), over three quarters of us are failing to meet this minimum recommended intake. Disappointingly, there has been little change if any, across the last ten years, as reported in the various UK NDNS studies (National Diet & Nutrition) showing that most people are quite set in their dietary ways. Supplementation with the right products is a healthy way of enriching our diet in order to enhance our intake of these healthful micronutrients.

Fruit & vegetables are not only a source of healthy phytonutrients such as flavonoids, polyphenols and isocyanates, but also a rich source of many essential vitamins, including Folate, Vitamin A, Vitamin C and the very important Vitamin K too. In addition, minerals such as potassium, selenium, zinc, copper and others are also found in fruit & veg, meaning that many of us may be missing out on a range of these crucial micronutrients, on a daily basis.

Prime Fifty Super Greens

Super Greens

The Super Greens formula has been specifically created for all age groups and it is designed to support overall health and help you reach the recommended daily intake of the nutrients that have been identified as crucial to overall health and wellness.

Maintain normal energy levels. Elements such as magnesium, iron and iodine are also present to support energy and fight fatigue.

Vitamin A at 50% of the daily requirement and Vitamin D at 4 X the RDA is required to support immune function. Studies show we are lacking both these vitamins at all life stages. Additional nutrients supporting immunity, formulated into Super Greens also include Folate, Vitamin C & B12 plus Zinc.

Bone Health

UK studies show that Calcium and Vitamin D intake from food alone is still too low overall and bone density and bone strength can suffer. In addition, vitamin K (found in green leafy veg) is also needed for all round bone health support. Other micronutrients we tend to lack, including Zinc and Magnesium, are also formulated into Super Greens to further support bone health.

Muscle Support

Though most know that an adequate daily protein intake is key to maintain muscle mass and strength, additional key micronutrients including Magnesium, Zinc, Calcium and again, Vitamin D, are also required as part of normal protein synthesis metabolism and general muscle function.

Blood Health

Vitamins B6 and B12 are needed for red blood cell formation, but these two vitamins plus Folate also help to control levels of the toxic homocysteine within the blood. High uncontrolled homocysteine is associated with cardiovascular problems and therefore it is important to maintain normal levels. Chromium is also present in Super Greens at 75% of the RDA, as this maintains normal sugar levels in the blood, so relevant to (pre) diabetics.

Brain Health

Together Iron, Zinc and Iodine support overall brain health by contributing to normal cognitive function. Also, Pantothenic acid has been formulated into the product, as this is proven to support mental performance including concentration, learning and memory.

Eye Support & Vision

Vitamin A is present in Super Greens to help maintain normal vision, but also present is Zinc, Copper, Vitamin C and vitamin E, which have been the subject of the largest eye health study ever conducted, in which these nutrients were shown to reduce the incidence of macular degeneration, in trials conducted in 4000 adults across 82 clinical centres.

Skin, Hair & Nails

Vitamin C has been formulated into Super Greens to support the formation of collagen in the skin. And as we know, collagen in turn is known to promote structure and firmness of our skin. Connective skin tissues such as collagen and indeed elastin are also maintained by the presence of the mineral copper, hence its presence. Retinol (Vitamin A), Biotin, Zinc and Selenium have been formulated into Super Greens in order to maintain healthy skin, hair and nails too.

To help absorption of all these micronutrients in the gut, a unique and patented grade of black pepper extract is present.

Vegetable and Algal Extracts

Super Greens is the first effervescent tablet to also contain extracts of kale, broccoli, spinach, chlorella and spirulina, carefully chosen as a healthy source of a range of phytonutrients, vitamins, minerals and fibre. And the effervescent melon/lime flavour finishes off the product with a great tasting and refreshing drink.
